SMITH, Melvin (1951 - 2018)
Mr. Melvin Smith, 67, of Girdler, passed away Friday, December 28, 2018 at the Bluegrass Hospice Care Center at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. He was the son of the late Arthur and Reathy Childers Smith born on July 31, 1951 at Girdler.
Melvin was a heavy equipment operator and a member of the Horn Branch Baptist Church. He enjoyed working on cars and riding motorcycles.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kelvin Smith and five brothers, John H., Berchell, Earl Dean, Harold and Lewis Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta Smith of Manchester; four children, Brian Smith and wife, Denise, Darien Bargo, Stephanie Smith and Delvin Smith all of Barbourville; three sisters, Artie Stacy and husband, John C., of Indiana, Alta Grubb of Michigan and Thelma Merida of Bimble; a brother, Billy Smith and wife, Annetta, of Bimble; five grandchildren, Nicole, Tommy, Evan, Dane and Kyson; three great grandchildren; among other loved ones and dear friends.
His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Monday, December 31 at 1 P.M. with Rev. Owen Smith and Rev. Lonnie Collett officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Hampton Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Daryl Gray, Mike Edwards, Jason Smith, Sherman Jordan, Benny Edwards and Bev France. Honorary bearers will be Dr. Raju Vora, Hospice Care Center and the Corbin Nursing Home.
Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday between 6 and 9 P.M. and Monday prior to the funeral hour.
