Ms. Evelyn Tye, 88, of Barbourville, passed away Friday evening, February 26, 2010 in the Knox County Hospital. She was a daughter of the late George Thomas and Elsie Mae Mitchell Tye born on July 27, 1921 in Knox County.

Ms. Tye was a former co-owner of Tye’s Store and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Barbourville. She was a member of the Barbourville Junior Woman’s Study Club and enjoyed sewing, reading and playing card games.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Diana Tye Ballard; a brother, Herman M. Tye; a nephew, Donald Joshua “Josh” Tye and a great nephew, Kristopher Shan Quentmeyer.

Survivors include two sisters, Dorothy Tye Buchanan and Jessie Gayle Tye both of Barbourville; two nieces, Dinah Kathryn Buchanan Butler and husband, Jerry, of St. Cloud, FL and Rebecca Ann Tye Quentmeyer and husband, Steven, of Dumfries, VA; a nephew, William Thomas Buchanan of Barbourville; a great niece, Diana Joslyn Tye Flynn and husband, Jerome, of Somerset; five great nephews, Patrick Shan Quentmeyer and wife, Jenene, of Fuguay Verina, NC, Tyler Stephen Quentmeyer of Arlington, VA, William Jerrad Butler and wife, Stephine, of St. Cloud, FL, Clay Thomas Butler and wife, Andra, of Barbourville and Brent Doan Tye of Lexington; a sister-in-law, Opal Clark Tye of Barbourville; a brother-in-law, David Ballard of Barbourville; a niece-in-law, Evelyn Merida Tye of Barbourville; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Tuesday, March 2 at 1 P.M. with Rev. Ernie Carmicle officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be John Frank Hammons, Tom Buchanan, Don Hammond, Jerry Butler, Clay Butler, Tyeler Quentmeyer, Steven Quentmeyer and Ray Blair Canady.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
