After serving his country honorably in the United States Armed Forces during World War II, Walter C. "Tub" Hopper returned to Knox County to begin a life-long career in funeral service.
His youngest son, Joseph W. Hopper, was reared in the county and family tradition of a professional funeral director. After graduation from Centre College, in 1990, Joe decided that serving the families of Knox County in the funeral profession was his calling. He followed in the footsteps of Tub to become a licensed embalmer and funeral director.
Together, in 1990, father and son opened the first new funeral home in the county since 1988, at 325 Knox Street. These two generations of Hopper's have provided funeral services to families as the only licensed funeral directors and embalmers with the last name of Hopper in Knox County who fully own and operate a family funeral home in Barbourville.
